Minions Coffee Cup Cozy Pattern

In honor of the new Minions movie that was just released, I decided I wanted to try and make a Minion coffee cup cozy. While looking my first coffee cup cozy, the design of the Minion popped into my head. It turns out to be a bit larger than the previous one I made but I think it turned out pretty cute.

This is actually the second one I made. The first was the test and it needed a few adjustments on the placement of the eye and the black strap. When I was working on this project, I wasn’t sure if this Minion was going to have two eyes or one until it was completed.

One thing I did when changing colors in this pattern, I used an invisible join. This is a great tutorial on how to do an invisible join if you don’t know how. Pay close attention since we are counting stitches in this pattern. Once it was joined. I added my next color and went on.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Yellow, Blue, Black, Brown, White, and Grey yarn
  • I hook and H hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

COZY PATTERN: (using the I hook)

Row 1: (blue yarn) Chain 30. Slip Stitch to beginning chain (make sure not to twist your chain). Chain 1 single crochet around. (30 stitches) This is where I would do the invisible join before changing yarn colors. Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 2-7: (yellow yarn) Join your yellow yarn and *Chain 1. Single crochet around. Slip stitch to join. (30 stitches)* Repeat from * to* until you reach row 7. Instead of slip stitching to join on row 7, I used the invisible join to finish the row. Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 8-9: (black yarn) Join your black yarn and *Chain 1. Single crochet around.* Slip stitch to join. (30 stitches) Repeat from * to * at the end of row 9, join using the invisible join. Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 10-15: (yellow yarn) Join your yellow yarn and Chain 1. Single crochet around. Slip stitch to join (30 stitches) Repeat from * to * until you reach the end of row 15. Join using the invisible join. Cut your yarn and weave in your ends.

EYE PATTERN: (using H hook)

Row 1: (black yarn) Chain 2. Single crochet 4 stitches in the first chain. Use the invisible join to join (4 stitches). Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 2: (brown yarn) Join your brown yarn and chain 1. Single crochet 2 stitches in each of the stitches. Join with invisible join (8 stitches). Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 3: (white yarn) Join your white yarn and chain 2. Double crochet 2 stitches in each stitch. Join with invisible join (16 stitches). Cut your yarn and crochet over the ends when you start the next row.

Row 4: (gray yarn) Join your gray yarn and chain 1. Single crochet 2 stitches in each stitch. Join with indivisible join (32 stitches). When you cut your yarn, make sure to leave a long tail so you can use this to attach the eye to the cozy.

Attaching the eye: Place your eye in the center so it is centered over the black stripe. Using your yarn needle, sew the eye onto the cozy.

This pattern turned out to be pretty fun to make. I learned how to do the invisible join while making this pattern. Love it when I learn something new.
