On your next travels, make sure you stop by the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE! I absolutely love this zoo. I used to live closer to the as a child and when our family went to the zoo, it was always the Henry Doorly Zoo. (Make sure you check out all the things to do in Omaha!)
The facility is excellent and they are always making it better. The some of animals don’t just live cages, they live in habitats. At the zoo there is a Dessert Dome, Leid Jungle, Berniece Grewcock Butterfly and Insect Pavilion, Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium, and SO much more. They are currently working on the African Grasslands, I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
We started our morning off visiting the Leid Jungle. Just check out how wonderful this jungle is! It is so much fun to walk in the jungle and see all the animals, fish, reptiles, and birds. The birds can even fly about most of the jungle.
The desert dome is another awesome place to visit. Birds are able to fly about and the desert animals are able to feel like they are at home.
Another great area was the garden area. It was filled with pretty flowers and plants as well as cute statues of baby animals. In this area, they had several tropical birds sitting out under pergolas. My youngest son started to making a squawking noise from his stroller. He had all the birds squawking back at him. He had fun with that.
My oldest son had a great time with a gorilla. When we first walked into the gorilla area, we stopped at one window and we didn’t see anything. Just about the time we were going to walk away, a gorilla came out from around the bushes and decided to sit down next to us. It looks like in the pictures that they were sitting down for a conversation. He thought this was the greatest part of the trip!
Another thing that the kids loved about the zoo was the interaction they could get while walking around. In the jungle area, they had a table set up where you could examine different leaves. While walking around, we got to meet a possum and a baby goat.
