Here in Nebraska, one thing that we do best is tailgating! It doesn’t feel like football season unless we get out the smoker and throw some meat on.

My husband looks for any excuse possible to smoke meat. It could be the coldest day in winter and as long as he can get the lid open, he’s outside feeding the fire.

The meat of choice this weekend was ham. One of my favorite things to do with smoked ham is to take the leftovers and grind it up and use it for ham salad sandwiches. King’s Hawaiian makes some amazing sandwich buns that are the perfect size for our smoked ham salad sandwiches.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Smoked Ham (ground coarsely)
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp Sweet Pickle Relish (or more according to your taste
  • 1/2 finely chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Yellow Mustard
  • a pinch Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Lettuce
  • King’s Hawaiian Sandwich Buns

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground ham, mayonnaise, pickle relish, onion, and mustard. Add in a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for a few hours until cold. When the mixture is chilled, create your sandwich by spreading the mixture over the King’s Hawaiian Sandwich Buns and adding some leaves of lettuce. Enjoy!

Thinking of tailgating… what’s your favorite part of game day? Mine is definitely the excitement that we get to experience here in town during home football games!

KING’S HAWAIIAN has an all-star line-up of sandwich products which includes: Mini Sub Rolls, Sandwich Buns, and Hamburger Buns and Hotdog buns.

Whether you are at your kid’s game or the stadium, KING’S HAWAIIAN is a great choice for a family tailgate.
