I thought today that you deserved to hear an update on my health initiative since I’ve been talking about it so much lately. Oh, and since it is the end of the month.
If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen me post a photo that said “1 Like = 1 Minute of Exercise.” Over 40 fans hit the like button and I ended up going for the win and doing 60 minutes on the elliptical machine! Thanks for the motivation friends!
I’ve been talking about losing weight for quite some time now, however something really clicked around Easter of this year. I was finally ready, in my own mind, to do something about it.
I started by trying to get my food in check. Tired of feeling bloated and puffy all of the time, I started reading labels and eating foods with lower amounts of sodium, watched my carbohydrates to make sure I was only eating the good ones and vowed to cut out all the crap.
About 3 days into this process, I became extremely angry (because that is what happens to a comfort eater when they are struggling with food). After I got over the fact that I needed to stop eating junk and my headache from sugar withdrawl went away, I was able to continue on normally.
About two weeks after I got my food in check, I noticed that my energy level had risen and I actually felt like exercising. This was odd because I almost never feel like exercising. I figured I shouldn’t waste the beautiful moment, so I went to my elliptical machine, removed the clothes hanging on it, blew off the dust and started to move.
1 hour later I finally decided to quit for the day. Yes, you read that right, 1 hour! Where did all of this newfound energy come from?
Of course, my legs felt like jello when I quit, but I stretched really good afterward and surprisingly was not sore at all the next day. So, I did it again! I have successfully managed to keep up with exercising at least 4 times a week for the past month and a half!
But, I am happy to report that since Easter, I have lost 15 pounds, started exercising more AND feel so much better! My back no longer aches when I get up in the morning, I don’t constantly feel like I have a food hangover and I feel like I can maintain better focus now when working.
I’ve been someone who has been looking for “the magic diet” for years now. Once I finally came to the realization that there is no magic skinny pill, I put all of my years of knowledge about health and exercise together and started using it to my advantage.
The best part about it is… it is free!
I am slowly learning how keep eating the foods I love, but just in a more balanced and controlled manner with the addition of exercise. Because really, its all about basic math – calories in vs calories burned.
Selfishly, this blog post is more for me than it is for you. I need a place to track my progress and where I can hold myself accountable. I hope that you will stop by often and offer me words of encouragement and even tell me your stories and struggles with weight loss.
I have 85 pounds more to go until I reach my goal weight, so I will be here for a while if you ever want to talk about getting healthy! 🙂
