Before I joined the blogging world, I had no idea what in the world a Twitter Party was. I thought it was an interesting concept to get hundreds of people together, with tweets flying everywhere. I have to admit, I joined my first Twitter Party because I was intrigued at how this was going to be organized. Since then, I have attended several and have realized how addicting and fun they are! I’ve also made a few new friends in the process. Today I will be answering the questions you might be asking about Twitter Parties if you are new to the blogging world, or this concept, as well.

What is a Twitter Party?

A Twitter Party is where a group of people get together online during a specified time period and answer questions, share ideas and give their opinion all while using a # (hashtag). This concept is sometimes used to promote a brand through word of mouth marketing.

How does it work?

There will be an event organizer that will be asking questions throughout the party. It is best that you utilize a software such as Tweet Deck or Tweet Grid to customize your search columns. In one column you will follow the organizer that will be asking the questions and in the second column you want to follow any tweets using the #hashtag that is assigned to the event. Parties vary, and each company that hosts the party will post a set of rules and helpful tips on their websites for following along during the party. You will want to login and get your search columns set up about 10 minutes before the party so that you are ready. Once the organizer asks the first question, you will reply to them giving your answer and including the #hashtag of the party. If the company sponsoring the party donates prizes, the host will also give out random prizes throughout the party to thank the users for their participation.

Why is it useful?

Twitter Parties, when done properly, can generate a lot of positive buzz about a product/company. For companies, it is a great way to gather quick market research about how consumers are using their product, what types of things they love about it and more about the demographics of their fans. For party goers it is a great way to share tips and tricks about how you use great products and get a chance to earn prizes from your favorite companies!

Who can participate?

Anyone with a Twitter account can participate in one of these events. It is recommended that you RSVP to the respective site hosting the party so that you can be entered in the contest to win any prizes that are given out.

How can I find parties to participate in?

Midwestern Moms and Kelly’s Lucky You have recently collaborated to start a new Twitter Party Calendar. It can be found here or on our main navigation under Twitter Calendar.

Why should I attend one?

A Twitter Party is a great way to meet new people and network on Twitter with others that share your interests. If you are very passionate about a product or company, it is a great time for you to get the chance to be able to tell others about it. Twitter parties are meant to be a fun time for participants and generate a positive experience.

How much do they cost?

If you are participating in the party, they are completely FREE! The company that wishes to sponsor a party pays the host for organizing the event and provides all of the prizes.

If you are a company that has found my blog and are interested in having a Twitter Party or learning even more about them, please email me for more information.

Use the Twitter Party calendar and jump in on the fun today! Do you have any tips and tricks you would like to share such as software you use during the parties that make following along easier? What are your thoughts about parties you have attended?
