We treat our pets like family, so when it comes to the holidays, they get stockings full of goodies also! These are our two indoor dogs, a yorkie and a rat terrier. Our yorkie is 4 years old and has a ton of energy. He definitely runs laps around everyone in the house and is our daughter’s best friend. She hugs him several times a day and they watch movies together. Our rat terrier is my pet that I have had since I was in college. He was the first pet that I got when I left home and he is very special to me. This year he turned 12 years old and is really starting to show his age. When he was small his head was almost completely brown and now it is almost completely white. Recently, he had to have several teeth removed and hasn’t been able to enjoy as many treats, so I was looking to get something softer for him this year.
This year for the dogs I wanted to put together a gift basket. The first thing I did was to browse the Milk-Bone website to see about getting some softer chews for my dog that is missing most of his teeth.
I was able to find some treats on their website that looked like they might work for him. They also come in Filet Mignon flavor! I love the Milk-Bone has so many vitamins and minerals included. It makes me feel better about giving them to my animals. When I got to the store I noticed that Milk-Bone also had a coupon on some packages that allowed you to save money on additional treats. If you would like to see my entire trip to stock up on treats to make my dog’s goodie bags, please visit my Google + album here.
My next stop in browsing for treats was to Pup-Peroni, which has a super cute website. This dog comes to “greet” you as you visit and holds up a sign in his mouth. I got a screenshot of it because I thought it was funny and very clever.
Pup-Peroni also had where you could print coupons from their site if you wanted to print them at home and take them to the store with you.
I was also shopping for a product from Milo’s Kitchen. Though I had never heard of Milo’s Kitchen before, I visited their site to see what sort of products I could get. Some of these snacks look like people food! I knew my dogs would love these meatballs when I saw them, so i decided to add them to the list.
Now, if you have animals, you probably know that animals will eat anything, which is why I feel that it is up to me to make sure that they are being taken care of. My dogs have been picky in the past. All pets are different, and like humans can tolerate foods very differently. We can give my rat terrier anything from the table and he will eat it, however we can’t give my yorkie any food from the table because table food tends to make his stomach upset. When shopping for new products, I always visit websites first to find out what is in the products because I tend to feel rushed when I’m at the store. Rather than purchasing something that I know is not going to work for us and having to return it, I try to investigate beforehand.
Here are some of the products I ended up with to make my goodie bags for the pups. I decided to get 3 snacks and a toy fo reach of them from the store. My terrier loves stuffed toys, but they soon end up un-stuffed, so I got him a toy that comes un-stuffed! I got a bone for my yorkie because he still really likes to chew and play fetch.
Did you get any special treats for your dogs this holiday season?
Please be sure to come back and read by next post where I unveil the gift basket I created for them! In the meantime, here is a photo to show you that you can be a princess at any age! (This lovely headpiece was courtesy of my daughter.)
