Reindeer Canvas Art

Today I had to bust out some typography skills for my Reindeer Canvas Art. I had some amazing inspiration for this craft that you can visit on Pinterest. Since I was making mine on canvas, I decided to change a few things to tailor it to my Christmas Decor. I love to sing Christmas songs, despite my terrible voice, and thought this would also be a perfect visual for my daughter in years to come to teach it to her!

Supplies:

  • Canvas
  • Cricut (I also used SCAL Software and Century Gothic Bold Font)
  • Stencil (I used vinyl, however you can also use freezer paper)
  • Glue
  • Glitter

Instructions:

Step 1:  I opened SCAL, chose my font and started typing the names of the reindeer in the song “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”  I hope that my design friends will be gentle on me for my lack of typography skills! :)

SCAL

Step 2:  Using my Cricut, I cut out the template in vinyl. Next time I will use something besides vinyl because I found that it doesn’t stick the best to canvas.

Step 3  :Place the stencil on the canvas and paint or use your fabric markers to fill in the letters. You will notice from the photo that the vinyl started bubbling once I got it on the canvas. Another reason why you shouldn’t use it if you are a perfectionist like me that really likes straight lines! haha! Let it dry completely and then remove stencil.

Step 4:  Add glitter to the dot. I decided to put a dot after Rudolf because I thought that it symbolized his nose. Just a tiny design element that I liked.
