I started noticing some pain in my stomach area, just under where my rib cage meets in the middle. It would be a few hours after eating. At first, I didn’t think anything of it. I even remember my mother asking the question, “Are you pregnant?”. At the time I gave her this look and said, “No way”. Come to find out a few weeks later that answer should have been a yes.

We were not trying for our second child yet, but it happened. So, I personally wasn’t ready for the pregnancy. I didn’t actually go see a doctor till I was about three months along. We were in the process of moving at the time and decided to just wait till we figured out where we would end up before finding a doctor. I had no problems with my first child so figured the same to be true with the second. Turns out, food became the enemy. I kept having that stomach pain after eating. I finally narrowed it down to beef. Simple enough, I just cut beef out of my diet. That was fine until pork started to fall under that same stomach pain. So out went the pork. Next was eating at restaurants. We hardly eat out but I would grab McDonald’s after a doctor appointment. It got to where I just had to wait till I got home or take a snack with me.
At this time I started to search the internet. I decided it was my gall bladder. I talked to my doctor about it and told her I thought. We discussed it and decided we needed to wait till after pregnancy to determine if that was the case. At this point, there was only like a month left, so what was another month.
The little guy finally decided to meet us and while I was in the hospital, I decided it was time for a nice juicy burger. I have been waiting months for cheeseburger. Well, the same thing happened. The pain was still there. Still convinced it was gall bladder, I just decided to wait it out as long as possible.
I finally got tired of just chicken and turkey so I went to the family doctor. He said it was hard telling what it could be and we needed to run tests. I got set up for an ulcer test and they were checking with the insurance to see how they would pay on a gall bladder test. I had the ulcer test – turned out to be just fine. Then the insurance said they wouldn’t help pay for the tests on the gall bladder so I decided to wait some more.
Several month went by and my baby turned 11 months. I decided I would try going to a chiropractor. At least I could get my answer on my problem right then and there. Why I didn’t think of this sooner, I don’t know. Went in, told him what was going on. He looked at me and said, I think I know what the problem is so lets get to checking things out. He went through and tested several things: gall bladder – fine, liver – fine and all sorts of tests. Turned out to be a Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency and since I went so long, a digestive enzyme and probiotic deficiency. This was all that my problem was, easy fix.
The chiropractor explained that since it was my second pregnancy, my body had not built back up to where it should have been after the first pregnancy. Since my child was taking my calcium, I didn’t have the proper amount to make my stomach acid good enough to break down the food. So the pain was coming from my stomach muscles taking action to grind the food down. Since the food wasn’t getting processed correctly, it was sending larger chunks of food down to the intestines. The enzymes couldn’t keep up and break the food down so is was rotting in there. Lovely thought huh? So, I now take calcium, vitamin D, and enzymes.
Guess what I ate last night??? Chili – with BEEF!! YAY! I only had some bloating from it but NO pain. I have been taking my supplements for a few weeks now. I figure I have quite a bit of catching up to do.
Also, I mentioned to him that my child had acid reflux horrible when he was little. He said he was probably calcium and vitamin D deficient as well. I had him tested the next day. Guess what-he was. It is even possible that I could have avoided the acid reflux if I would have went to him in the beginning with my problem. My little guy could have gotten all nutrients he was needing. I feel guilty that I didn’t get the help sooner. He is now on calcium and vitamin D supplements as well.
Anyway, I told you I have been taking my supplements for a few weeks. I do want to say how much better I feel in general! I have had the energy to do things! I have been cleaning. Not just the cleaning that will get the house by, but really cleaning. I have been reorganizing things as well. I am constantly looking for things to do around here. Some of you may have noticed the new blog design. That was another product of feeling better. I am just really kicking myself for not doing this over a year ago.
