Our Day Learning About The Civil War

I happened to looking through our local paper and noticed there was going to be a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. I showed my husband and we decided to take the boys and enjoy some time outside the house. What was great about this little trip was that it was only about 2o minutes away!

Civil War Cannon

It was a fun day for us. After parking our car, we took a horse drawn wagon ride to the area where the celebration was taking place. We learned about the black powder guns and civil war money.

Civil War LearningThe best part was watching the cannon being fired. They were only shooting blanks, but they went through all the steps just as if the round was live. They said even the blanks could easily cause harm to something should it be within range. So while my oldest covered his ears and I covered my youngest son’s ears, we watched the cannon as they fired it 3 times. Thanks to my husband for taking the photo of cannon while it was being fired.

Civil War Cannon Being Shot

My oldest son enjoyed being outdoors. We have been trapped in the house with all the rain that has been falling lately he was getting cabin fever. It was nice that the sun decided to show while we enjoyed our day.

Civil War Day

Since we were in the sun most of the day, I wanted to make sure the family was protected. I grabbed up our Banana Boat® Sport Performance® Clear UltraMist® Sunscreen with PowerStay Technology™ . It is handy to grab when you are on the go and fits inside my purse as well. Plus, there isn’t a cap that I have to worry about. Simply twist either open or lock the container. It is quick absorbing as well, so I don’t have to worry about the sunscreen coming off. While applying the sunscreen, everyone holds their breath so they do not inhale the spray.

This sure has been a rainy summer! We always try to take advantage of the sun whenever it peeks it’s head out too! That sounds like a fun outing. I know my husband can’t wait until he can take Patrick to museums and get him into history.
