The first day of school can be a challenge. So many things to remember, do, and get out the door on time. And you can’t forget the candid first day of school photos!
How did you fair this year? Here is how our first day of school went and how it turned out to be the best day. (If your school hasn’t started yet, make sure to read these tips on how to have the best first day of school.)
The first day of school came on August 22. I woke up, got around. Then I checked my phone. I had a message from the school…Oh No.
The previous night’s rainstorms had cause flooding and roads were under water. They canceled the first day of school.
I went to tell my son, who was already up before his alarm and excited to start school, that he wasn’t going to be going today. Yes, he was bummed out. He really wanted to go.
When the actual first day happened, it was a little bit harder to get him out of bed. He really wanted to just sleep.
After some coaxing and helping him get around, we sat down to eat. He still was a bit groggy and just not in the best mood.
I sat down at the table with my cup of Seattle’s Best Coffee® and the Best Day List.
I started to ask him the questions from the list and we had a wonderful discussion. As we went through the questions, his mood turned around and he started to perk up.
By the time we were done, he was excited to get going!! YAY!
After that, we had time before the bus came to pick him so of course, the camera came out. We had fun taking pictures. We got the candid first-day photos and then we had fun taking some goofy ones.
After that, we sat on the front porch and just talked about whatever came to our minds.
When the bus came down the road, he quickly hopped up and ran down the driveway to greet the bus.
When he returned home from school, he came running down the driveway with a huge grin on his face and saying “Mom! I had the Bestest Day EVER today!” No kidding, he said that. I was so excited that his day was wonderful.
We went inside and grabbed a snack and sat down again with the Best Day List and finished out the sheet. It was so much fun to learn how his day was the “Bestest”.
