Feeding an infant or toddler can be a challenge without the right tools. I remember my daughter’s first bites of food had to come from a certain type of spoon, or she refused to eat at all! Now that she is older and feeding herself, we have found that it is all about the presentation. Our main obstacle lies in trying to keep her seated and interested for long enough to finish her meal. This week, we got to try a few products by Boon called Groovy + ModWare. This is a set containing interlocking dishes and bowls (known as Groovy) and the utensil set (known as ModWare).
Boon creates innovative designs for products that are simple, practical and affordable – all while keeping child safety in mind. As summarized from their website, Boon Inc was started when Rebecca Finell sought out a simple solution to tidy up the tub and designed the Frog Pod. Finell then added a parter, Ryan Fernandez, and together they created the business that we know and love today. “We’re committed to creating nothing but the most innovative gear—and keeping it affordable. Our design studio is always in motion, tackling one parenting challenge after another.” Visit the Boon News Blog for great contests, product ideas and new product news.
As a parent, I thank Boon for making such amazing products that help me in daily life! I also really appreciate a company like Boon that gives back. They donate 10% of their profits to children’s charities.
Groovy + ModWare
The Groovy interlocking dish and bowl set is so cool! The design is very modern, yet the system is functional. The center dish allows you to separate two different food types and is made out of very sturdy material! No other child plates that we own are near this sturdy! The bottom of the dish is lined with a slip-resistant material to keep the dish in place while your little one is eating. The bowls are very easy to unlock and lock against the side of the dish. You can lock them anywhere along the outside edge of the entire dish, leaving you many options for arranging meals or snacks.
The ModWare utensil set is also very sturdy and includes grips on the handles that are easy for small hands. I love that the fork is hard enough to actually be able to stick food and scoop it at the same time, yet doesn’t contain any sharp edges. These are made with very high quality materials.
What I Love About This Product + Feature Spotlight
We have 3 problems at mealtime – all 3 of which this product conquers!
1. When introducing new foods, often times I only want to give our daughter a small amount along with her meal, yet want to keep it separate in case she doesn’t like it. We all know how toddlers can be if they don’t like something on their plate and it is mixed with everything else!
The bowls are perfect for this! They are completely separate from the plate, so if she doesn’t like one small thing, we can remove it immediately and avoid the entire issue of it remaining there while she eats her other food. We can then try to reintroduce it at a later date.
The small bowl is a no-mess solution for adding a little vegetable or fruit dip to snack time. Dipping has always been tedious for us in the past because we would either have to hold the container ourselves, or place the dip in a separate container that we then risked being knocked onto the floor. The fact that these bowls interlock onto the sides of the plate are amazing!
3. The all-to-famous sliding the plate across the table onto the floor when done eating.
I LOVE the slip-resistant base on the bottom of this dish and both interlocking bowls! Not only does it help the plate stay put when my daughter is eating, but it helps the plate stay put when she decides she doesn’t want anymore and tries to push it completely off the table onto the floor! This is an amazing feature that I am in love with and now will not be able to do without!
