Disclosure: I was provided with a doll to review in order to produce this article. No monetary compensation was given. All thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and are that of my own.
I want to start out this post by giving you a little bit of background on my love for Barbie and what she means to me, then we will get to the review of a gorgeous new doll, the Argentina Barbie from the Dolls of the World Collection.
When I was a small child, my grandma used to take me over to her friend’s home whenever they would have yard sales together. The reason why I remember this particular lady is because she had a doll collection like nothing I had ever seen. They were all displayed in a curio cabinet and I remember thinking to myself that I wanted to have doll collection like that someday.
My first Barbie doll was given to me in 1982 and was the Twirly Curls Barbie Doll. This doll came with a pink Twirly Curler that you could place Barbie’s hair in and twist it to make the curls. I was mesmerized by this doll and played with her constantly. I still have this doll today, along with over 40 others that I played with as a child and am hoping to hand them down to my daughter within the next year. Every Christmas that I can remember, I had the same present request, a Barbie doll. Each year, my mom would deliver by ensuring that there was a rectangular shaped box under the tree waiting for me.
Over the years, my love for Barbie has continued. I have maintained a small collection of around 30 dolls and several collectible ornaments and accessories that have all remained boxed for display. I’m hoping that someday, I will get to have a room to display all of my Barbies in and be able to bring a smile to my daughter and her friend’s faces when they look at them as well.
I always saw Barbie as a positive role model in my life. She encouraged my imagination, and really gave me an understanding that in life, I could be whatever I wanted to be. My Barbies always explored many different career paths, spent time with family and friends and even fell in love! (Although I should add that the wedding dress was my favorite outfit, so her and Ken renewed their vows a LOT at my house!)
Dolls of the World Collection: Argentina Barbie Doll
The Argentina Barbie doll has quickly become one of my favorites. She is dressed in a gorgeous ruffled dress and lace shawl and looks like she is ready to tango! She comes holding a Puma, a member of the cat family that is prominent in Argentina. The detail in her clothing and accessories is amazing. My favorite part is definitely the tiny rose that adorns her black high-heeled shoe.
The Dolls of the World Collection started in 1980 and has featured over 100 dolls as the longest running Barbie collection to date. This year, Barbie is launching this collection with a fresh look and already showcases several dolls from all over the globe. Not only does each doll come wearing an outfit native to her home country, she also comes with a passport and her box doubles as a carrying travel case.
So far, the dolls launched this year include the Argentina doll, the Australian doll, the China doll and the Ireland Barbie doll.
The Dolls of the World Collection Barbie dolls sell for $29.95 retail and are recommended for children ages 6+. They can be purchased on the Barbie Collector website.
Your child can travel along with Barbie, learn about new cultures and play games on their interactive website.
