While this blog isn’t at all about weight loss, some additional pounds is simply what is weighing on my mind this evening. I’ve recently experienced some events in my life that are a huge wake up call for my family to become healthy! Being a work at home mom often leaves me feeling guilty when I spend time on anything other than work or my child. I realize that I should put health first, but it often is last on my daily to-do list. Since I am a “to-do list” type of girl, that is the first task I am writing on my daily list from now on — getting healthy.
My first step was to think of a way I could incorporate exercise into my lifestyle. My choices are either to exercise early, late or during the day with my daughter. Being a work at home mom often means that I am working late and sleeping early, so what works best for me is to be able to exercise during the day. I wanted to choose a form of exercise that my daughter would think is fun also, so that I would be able to make it through an entire workout and have her participate if she want. She loves to dance. Every time we turn on music she is instantly moving. Since I share her love for dance, I decided to pick up Zumba and see how I would like it.
I purchased the Wii game, because I tend to be very competitive when it comes to games, so I figured that would be the best way to challenge myself. Once I popped in Zumba, the music started playing and little shoulders started moving. It was a success! For my first time exercising in a long time, I had to take it easy, but it seemed to be something fun that both of us could participate in. While I danced, she danced and laughed also. (I like to pretend she’s laughing WITH me and not AT me – haha!)
We also have been focusing on eating more balanced meals at home. Now, I need to work on my quantity. Even though it will take some self-control, I have high hopes and am ready to start the journey.
I hope to soon be able to tell you about how I feel on the other side of these 100 pounds I need to shed!
How do you work out while working at home?
