I’m literally so disgusted right now that I can’t even sleep. I have something on my mind that I want to share with you that isn’t at all like my usual content, but it is something that I felt like I had to share because I wanted to get your opinion.
For the first time tonight, and by accident I might add, I watched Nick Mom.
After a very long day with my toddler, my husband had gotten home from work late and my daughter stayed up to see daddy before she went to bed. It was around 9 pm. I felt like I needed to wind her down a bit, and usually watching a little bit of Dora or Max & Ruby will do the trick so that I can then put her to bed.
I flip on Nick Jr, which is marketed to pre-school aged children, assuming that one of my daughter’s favorite shows will be on. Instead, I hear words coming from my TV that I would not even say to you, my adult blog readers. Confused, I rushed for the remote and checked to make sure I was even on the correct channel. I was sure his had to be a mistake! Nope, no mistake… this is Nick Mom, the new show geared toward moms that airs at 10pm EST.
That’s 7pm West Coast.
Pretty sure kids are still up by then.
So, how did it come to be that a show geared toward adults is airing on our beloved Nick Jr? This seems to be the million dollar question.
Let me explain to you that I love crude humor. But, it has it’s place. I often post about adult topics on my personal Facebook page, and share funny photos that I find on Pinterest with friends, but I do feel that adult content has it’s place and on a channel that is marketed toward my toddler/pre-school aged child is not it.
But I believe it speaks volumes that the words I heard coming from Nick Jr tonight are words that I don’t even feel comfortable sharing with you, my adult blog readers.
I don’t allow my child to watch television all day, however it was nice to be able to count on Nick Jr. to always have content that would be safe for my child to watch. I don’t want to “give up” on the channel, because we do love Dora, The Backyardigans, Peppa Pig, and Max & Ruby, but I refuse to support that it is okay for Nick Mom to be on a channel that caters to young children.
I have voiced my concern on the Nick Jr Facebook Fan Page and have sent them an email through the contact form on their website regarding this topic. Part of me thinks that no one is going to listen to little ol’ me, but if enough of us contact them, hopefully they will begin to see that there is a concern. I read a post today from Dear Crissy about how she is disgusted with Nick Jr also. I have to agree with her also that I miss Moose and Zee!
What do you think about Nick Mom being broadcast on Nick Jr?
