Automated Pet Care Products, Inc., creators of the Litter-Robot, have been making automatic litter boxes since 1999. They realized the hassles of keeping a litter box clean resulting in an efficient, self-cleaning litter box with a 90 day money back guarantee.
I received the Litter Robot II Bubble in black from Automated Pet Care Products to review. The litter box arrived in about five pieces. The manual made it simple to assemble in under ten minutes. Once filling the box with clumping litter, a test cycle must be completed. Once this is done, a cat can begin to use the box. Once the cat enters the box, a sensor is tripped which begins a seven minute countdown. At the end of that countdown, the empty cycle begins. The bubble rotates dumping the unused litter through a screen forcing the used clumps to fall through a door into the waste pan. The bubble returns to it’s original position dumping the unused litter back into the bubble. Once the cycle is complete, it is ready for the cat to use again. It takes approximately two minutes to run a full cycle.
My cat, Luna, is set in her ways and does not like change. It took her several weeks before finally using the litter box. I attribute most of her apprehension to being an indoor/outdoor cat who prefers the outdoors and just being plain stubborn. I placed her in the box several times which peaked her curiosity. She sniffed around the box many times before entering on her own. Upon exiting the box, it is easy for the cat to drag extra litter out. I recommend placing a rug or mat in front of the box to catch the excess litter. Other than that, I like the litter box and anticipate Luna to start using it more when the snow starts flying. I do really like the ease of cleaning. Simply pull out the waste pan, tie up the bag, and insert a new bag. By emptying the waster into the pan below, it keeps the litter box free of odor and also helps to conserve the litter.
