Cream Cheese Mints

With my daughter’s birthday nearing, I’m digging out my recipes to make some goodies! I wanted to share with you this super easy, cream cheese mint recipe. I’ve made this for bridal and baby showers, weddings, birthday and anniversary parties. These are very easy to make up early and freeze before the big event so you don’t have to stress to make them the night before. Be careful though, don’t keep them in the freezer for too long or your husband might eat them before you get a chance to take them anywhere!

Ingredients

  • 1 – 8oz pkg of Cream Cheese (Softened)
  • 1 – 2lb bag of Powdered Sugar
  • Mint Extract
  • Food Coloring (in your desired color)
  • White sugar, used for rolling the mints
I also use plastic mint molds, purchased from a local craft store, to make the mints different shapes. I did small, green turtles for a baby shower one time that turned out really cute.

Directions
  1. Mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar and approximately 10 drops of mint extract together in a large bowl. You will most definitely get powdered sugar everywhere, which is part of the fun! I prefer the good old-fashioned way of using a fork and my hands to mix, however if you have a fancy mixer you can use your dough hook attachment to help mix.
  2. Add food coloring to tint the color of the mixture according to the directions on the package. Mix well.
  3. Lay out a sheet of wax paper and put the white sugar in a bowl to keep beside it.
  4. Pinch off a small bit of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Roll the ball in the bowl of sugar to give it a fine coating and then press into your mint mold. You can remove the mint from the mold right away and set aside on wax paper. Continue to do this until all mints are made.
  5. Let the mints sit overnight.
  6. Place into an air tight container and keep them in the freezer if you won’t be using them for at least a week.
These mints are a party favorite and are so much more tasty than the mints that you buy at the store in the package. You know, the ones that melt in your mouth. Try them out at your next event and let me know what shapes you made!

  1. Cream cheese mints are the best! This is actually the same recipe I use. I know you talk about using plastic molds (I assume you mean the standard candy molds that you find at places like Michael’s and Hobby Lobby) but I have found that the rubber molds tend to keep the mint shape a little better when you poke them out of the mold. Just something to try. In our area, I know that Ben Franklin’s (a local variety store) has a large selection of rubber molds. You can also purchase them online from lots of different sites.

Another fun thing to do with these mints is to make them different flavors. Just substitute the mint extract for a different flavor like orange, lemon, or cinnamon. It’s also fun to make the colors correspond to the flavor.

    1. Great ideas Julie! I’ve heard that the rubber molds work very wel. I’ll have to go search for some the next time I make up a batch.

    Where are the pictures?? :)

    1. I’ll have to snap some next time I make them. Most of them get eaten way before I have a chance to get photos of them!

  3. I am wondering when you use the plastic ones how are you getting them to come out so they keep the shape and are not sticking in the mold. Please let me know.

    1. I pinch off a little ball that I am going to mold and then roll it in white sugar before I place it into the mold. They pop right out that way for me. If they are too sticky, try adding more powdered sugar.
