I will be honest, I started my cloth diaper journey blindly. I really wished I had this wonderful book to guide me before my son was born. I would like to point out some things from Changing Diapers I learned.
Sample diapers before buying a large amount of them
My Error: I had seen the modern cloth diapers and their price and didn’t look into them any farther. I had planned on cloth diapering my son so I went old fashion – prefolds. When my son came (4 months ago), I could not get the the prefolds to fold small enough and the little white plastic cover (which my husband and I nicknamed “The Trash Bag” because of the sound it made) didn’t fit well either. When my son turned about 3 months, I decided I really didn’t want to buy disposables anymore. That is when I started to use the prefolds. I could only use them part time because my son is very picky – he absolutely HATES feeling wet. Of course, “The Trash Bag” was very easily torn as well.
Solution: I am in the process of sampling diapers to decide which is the best for me (to keep my sanity), my husband (he doesn’t like to mess with the prefolds), and my son (who hates being wet).
I didn’t think about my laundry soap effecting the cloth diapers absorbency. Changing Diapers gives you a list of soaps to check out that are cloth diaper friendly. Also, there are tips for how to get your diaper clean.
Changing Diapers really covers everything you need to know about cloth diapering. I only talked about a very small portion of the book. You will need to read Changing Diapers to get all knowledge that I have now. The book was an easy book to read and understand. In fact, I was learning all sorts of things and I would rush to tell my husband as I read the book! After reading this book, I have every intention of becoming a full time cloth diapering mother!!!
