Cookies In a Jar: Cowboy Cookies

Cowboy Cookies were my first choice when Cookies in a Jar came to mind. I love making these cookies and the ingredients display nicely when you put them in a jar. I had to cut down the recipe to fit into the jar I used and I adapted it a bit from the original recipe that I found here at Mixes in a Jar. If you are looking for gifts in a jar, this site has a ton of great ideas!

Ingredients:

• 1 1/3 c Flour
• 1 tsp Baking Powder
• 1 tsp Baking Sugar
• 1/4 tsp Salt
• 1 c Quick Oats
• 1/2 c Sugar
• 1/2 c Brown Sugar
• 1 c Chocolate Chips (I used mini)

Directions: 

Step 1: Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and add ot bottom of a 1 Quart Canning Jar.

Step 2: Add the oatmeal as the next layer.

Step 3: Then add in the brown sugar on top.

Step 4:  Pour in the chocolate chips.

Step 5:  For the last layer, add the sugar. Note – If you don’t pack the chocolate chips well, the sugar wil find holes to drizzle down into.

Include a label with preparation instructions when you give as a gift. To prepare this, dump entire jar into a large mixing bowl. Add 1 stick of butter, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 egg. Mix thoroughly. Bake cookies at 350 degrees for approximately 11 minutes.
